Back up your photos!  Don't lose your most precious memories!

Has your phone or computer ever crashed?  Have you ever lost your data and felt that terrible feeling in the pit of your stomach when you realize,  "OH NO... they are gone!"

It has happened to me and it's terrible.  As a professional photographer, I back up my photos (personal and professional) in three different locations because one of my biggest fears is that I will lose the images and we all know these moments can not be re-created.  If you aren't saving your precious heirlooms to a cloud service like CrashPlan (who I use and one of my favorites... it runs in the background on your computer all the time!!), Dropbox, Google Photos, Amazon Cloud Drive or even an external hard drive (be sure to store it off site though!) then chances are you will lose all of your memories.  Trust me, I know!!   You will need to look into making an investment in a solution that works for you and your family but it will be worth it.

We have only been to Disney one time in my life... We took our girls, then age 11 and 13 and I took loads of photos. The castle, the parades, the fireworks, the rides and characters, the lunches and meals, the entertainment, the hotel swimming pool on Disney's property... the list is truly endless.  We had a magical time of course.  I had all my photos and loaded them onto my online website to share with family and friends.  Thank goodness I did that because somehow I deleted every single image off my laptop computer's hardrive.  I was physically SICK.  Every. Single. Image.  Had I not uploaded them to share with my family, they would have been gone for ever.

I advise all of my clients to download their photos to a hard drive then BACK THEM UP.  I have had a number of occasions where a client has lost their images due to hard drive failure or other circumstance and they ask if I have a back up of their photos.  Most of the time I do, but there is an archival fee to locate them. Here is a great article on storage tips from B&H Photo & Video to get you started.  By the way, B&H is is my GO TO for all things camera.  Just fyi. ;)   Do yourself a favor and make it a priority to back up.

Here are a few of my unforgettable moments that I fortunately had backed up to my external drive.  whew....  it would cost a fortune to go back for a do over of a family vacation!! :)
