I love to travel and I love adventure. One of the great joys of my life is to explore new places and to do this with my family is even better!! This summer, while my teenage children were away at camp, my husband and I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary and we decided to go and explore our very own North Georgia Mountains. It's amazing what we discovered only an hour away from the busy life of Atlanta... GORGEOUS wineries, a quiet cozy loft cabin with an open floor plan and a peaceful deck and screened porch, quiet mornings, delicious food and an amazing few days away to recharge and enjoy each others company. No long airline flights, no long road trips... just a beautiful, quick drive right up Ga 400.
Our friends Paula and Erick Emde have a darling and wonderful cabin within a few miles of several beautiful wineries and Chris and I enjoyed an amazing and relaxing stay in this cozy, comfortable mountain retreat. (more photos below)
A Beautiful Cabin Retreat tucked away in the North Georgia Mountains.
Want to see all the awesome cabin photos? A mere 2 Miles from various wineries, a HUGE back deck with lovely, quiet views, a very comfortable bed and fully stocked kitchen and we were perfectly at home! In fact, we did not want to leave our weekend oasis at all! It was very refreshing to get away from our busy Atlanta lives and recharge and relax a little bit. The best thing is that it is only 1 hour from Atlanta and it really seemed a world away!!
Fully Stocked kitchen with EVERYTHING you might need... all the little details were taken care of to make this weekend retreat feel like home. The back deck was HUGE and we spent both evenings out there enjoying the quiet and sipping on wine, reading a book and chatting. Nothing got in our way!
The loft queen bed was super comfortable and I LOVED having a skylight just above my head. It gave all the impressions of sleeping in a tent with wide open views but NONE of the downside of a tent. :). In an air-conditioned, comfortable bed instead with views of the tops of the trees and the sky above. A wonderful way to wake up.
Paula and Erick thought of all the little details to help make this a relaxing and wonderful retreat from busy Atlanta life. A wide variety of books to read, cards and games to play, a lovely porch looking into the woods to relax and enjoy a glass of wine, a large stack of tour guides, maps and winery information to browse through to plan the perfect mountain day.
Lunch in Dahlonega, A beautiful hike and a visit to the wineries...
Two miles to three different wineries, more within a short drive. Loads of great hikes and waterfalls close by. A 10 minute drive to Dahlonega, Cleveland, and 30-minute drive to Helen. Visit their listing on AirBnB.com website to learn more about renting this cabin. Want to see all the awesome cabin photos?
When we pulled ourselves out of our little cabin retreat, we started off our three day vacation in Dahlonega with lunch at The Bourbon Street Grille ... Oh my!!! We had the Dirty Shrimp and the Bayou Bruchetta... let's just say we were NOT disappointed! Reasonably priced and simply delicious with a great view looking down from the balcony onto the Public Square on Main Street and the Dahlonega Gold Museum Historic Site.
My husband is a huge fisherman and on his bucket list was a visit to Smithgall Woods / Dukes Creek. Paula told us to visit there and go for a hike as it is a short drive from her cabin and a peaceful relaxing way to spend time outside.
(Above) Sunflowers are some of the most beautiful flowers ever and there were fields and fields of sunflowers that were JUST about to bloom. One was showing her colors early and I had to take a quick photo...
A few photos from our winery visit...
Breakfast of champions.... After an afternoon exploring Dahlonega, we discovered a yummy little choclatier and had ourselves a wonderful little breakfast out on Paula and Erick's deck of chocolate, peaches, coffee and cherries. Delicious! :)
